Creation: A Celebration is an exquisite work of art in needlework, painting and calligraphy, reproduced in all its vibrancy in this delightful book.
From Reviews:
‘If there was an award for the most beautiful book of the year, Peasedown St John artist Sue Symons would stand a very good chance of winning it. Sue might also win an award for the most beautiful art show of the year too... [for these] beautifully and intricately worked panels’ Bath Chronicle

Illuminated hand-lettering and needle-worked borders

During 2009 Sue Symons will be completing her inspired artwork for a book celebrating the beauty and wonder of Creation which will have taken her over two years to finish.

It will consist of over sixty pages in a large format, each page framed with intricately embroidered borders. Using the poetic King James translation, Sue Symons has painted the text from Chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis onto highly decorated and illuminated backgrounds – for a few examples click the book icon below.

These pages will be interspersed with others containing a rich mélange of illustrative artwork depicting the great variety of plants, animals and insects with whom we share this wonderful creation – 112 different butterflies are illustrated on the endpapers alone. At the end of the book there are notes describing the materials and techniques used in decorating the pages. The book will have a hardback case binding and be printed to the highest standards.

Comments from a customer on receiving this book:

What a wonderful treat to see Sue's exquisite work presented in such a stunning way. Just as when I viewed the originals while she was working on them in Bath Abbey, I have had an emotional response to the amazing detail, colours and techniques that Sue incorporates into her work. The stitched butterflies are literally breath taking and could almost fly from the page. I was especially delighted to find a kangaroo (with joey) on the page of living creatures! Congratulations on your publication and your recognition of Sue's unique and remarkable talent.

Author Details:
Sue Symons was born in Hampshire in 1942. Early in her life the family moved to Dorset and she attended Dorchester County School for Girls. After ‘A’ levels she studied for a degree in Fine Arts at Bath Academy of Art in Corsham, followed by a year’s Teacher Training course at Leicester University, where she specialised in needlework. She taught at schools in Wallingford and Malvern before moving to France for four years with her first husband and small child. She then spent sixteen years in British Columbia, Canada, where she taught Further Education classes and exhibited widely.

In 2005 she returned to England, and now lives in Somerset, near Bath, where she began work on her first book, One Man’s Journey to Heaven. The original artwork, now known as the Bath Abbey Diptychs, relates the life of Christ from Annunciation to Ascension. They have already been successfully displayed in Wells Cathedral, Ammerdown Retreat Centre, Lichfield Cathedral, Potterne Church and twice at Bath Abbey. In 2007 the Abbey purchased the complete work and will be displaying it again at various times and places. It can be seen on the Bath Abbey website: www.bathabbey.org. The book, One Man’s Journey to Heaven, was published in 2007 by Eagle Publishers Ltd.
